Consider the bushy Tamarind tree under which Poe in summer dreamt and the ring-tailed Lemurs of Madagascar love. Originating from tropical Africa, the fruit’s distinctive sour-sweet tang has led to its global cultivation and regard. But besides being widely used in desserts and seasoning, the Tamarind possesses a wide spectrum of antibacterial activity, so it’s no wonder this plant became an ingredient in traditional medicine across India and Africa. Their hard brown pods contain six to twelve seeds, which typically fruit within three to four years and can grow up to eighteen meters.
