This mountain flower is found between 2600 to 3900 m (8500 to 12800 ft), making it the highest growing gladiolus. It is endemic to the tallest mountains of Kenya and Tanzania, where Prof. Karl Olov Hedberg, a pioneer of Afro-alpine vegetation, describes the conditions as “summer every day and winter every night.” Although it flowers year-round in the wild, in cultivation flowering tends to take place in late summer.
Minimum tested germination rate is 58%
