Vachellia stuhlmannii

from $6.00

The shrub or small tree Vachellia stuhlmannii, sometimes known by its former name Acacia stuhlmannii, grows primarily in eastern Africa in Kenya, Somalia, and Tanzania, with a separate population in southern Zimbabwe, eastern Botswana, and northern South Africa. Its native habitat is silty or clay soils up to 600 m in elevation, sometimes around vleis (shallow, seasonal lakes), giving it the common name vlei thorn. Typically it is a spreading, multi-stemmed shrub 1 to 3 m tall but can reach up to 6 m in height. The species can easily be recognized by the dense, golden hairs that cover its young shoots. Its leaves are compound with 7 to 25 pairs of leaflets per pinna. Flowers, which bloom in its native range from August to October, appear as white, fuzzy spheres, and give way to short, leathery pods that are dense with hair.

Minimum tested germination rate is 65%
